Dovecote (site Of)

The site of a building shown on a map of 1783. It is also shown on a map of 1838, where it is described as a dovecote; the 1838 survey book contains a note suggesting that it was to be demolished, and this is thought to have taken place in 1842.

Site of Former Workhouse

Documentary sources mention a cottage used as a workhouse in the eighteenth century; but was no longer serving this function by 1847. Slight earthworks visible in the area of the cottage in the 1970s may have been the remains of the demolished building. Located at the end of Hog’s Lane which ran alongside the Church.
