OLD MILL HOUSE, Mill Lane (formerly Old Mill Cottage, Mill Road)

18th century, extensively altered. Coursed rubble now plaster rendered. Concrete tile roof with brick gable coping. Two storeys. Two casement windows with glazing bars to each floor. Open-sided gabled porch.

Dovecote (site Of)

The site of a building shown on a map of 1783. It is also shown on a map of 1838, where it is described as a dovecote; the 1838 survey book contains a note suggesting that it was to be demolished, and this is thought to have taken place in 1842.

BARN (site of)

The site of a barn shown on a map of 1838. The demolition date is not known, but it had been demolished by the time of the 1960 Ordnance Survey.

The site of a possible dovehouse. The field is named Dovehouse Close on the 1783 Enclosure Map and Dovehouse Pightle on a map of 1838.

Site of Former Workhouse

Documentary sources mention a cottage used as a workhouse in the eighteenth century; but was no longer serving this function by 1847. Slight earthworks visible in the area of the cottage in the 1970s may have been the remains of the demolished building. Located at the end of Hog’s Lane which ran alongside the Church.

Smithy

An undated photograph showing the smithy at Turvey is probably early 20th century.

Watermill

Mill buildings, now converted to residential use. A report of the mill being destroyed by fire in 1885 suggests that the extant buildings are of that date and replaced those which were destroyed.

Roman Coin Hoard

A possible coin hoard reportedly found in 1826. A coarse pot containing small copper alloy coins was reportedly found during tree planting in Turvey in 1826. The coins were illegible. Barn at Picts Hill Farm

A post medieval barn it is a stone construction with a gabled slate roof. Another building was attached to the rear elevation but this has since been demolished, leaving the building in what appears to be its original form.
