The Modifications to Turvey Church in 1852
In 1852 Charles Longuet Higgins, of Turvey Abbey, made a proposal to enlarge and restore the Parish Church. He proposed that the whole should be done according to the designs and under the superintendence of George Gilbert Scott. Mr Longuet Higgin’s offer was accepted and on the 19th July work commenced.
George Gilbert was one of the foremost architects of the time having designed Westminster, the Albert Memorial and the Midland Hotel at St Pancras Station (which now includes the Gilbert Scott Restaurant).
The document is transcript of the notes that Charles Longuet Higgins produced relating to the modifications made to the Church.
