Memorandum by Charles Longuet Higgins on 'The modifications to Turvey Church in 1852'.
In this hand written note by Charles Longuet Higgins of Turvey Abbey, he explains how, in 1852, he made a proposal to enlarge and restore the Parish Church. He proposed that the whole should be done according to the designs and under the superintendence of George Gilbert Scott. Mr Longuet Higgins’ offer was accepted and on the 19th July work commenced.
George Gilbert Scott was one of the foremost architects of the time having designed Westminster, the Albert Memorial and the Midland Hotel at St Pancras Station (which now includes the Gilbert Scott Restaurant).
