County Parade: Turvey
Mercury and Herald Friday 30 September 1960.
From the Mercury & Herald. A picture of the later In a general article titled “County Parade” specific mention is made of the planned closure of Nell’s Well. The heading is “So sweet Nell of Old Turvey is not so sweet after all” The article describes a letter from Mr Matthews of Bedford Rural Council informing the parish council that an inspector upon analysing the water found it not fit to drink. The letter went on to say that the well would not be closed but that a warning notice would be erected.
There was considerable local reaction particularly from Mrs Wadsworth of Newton Lane and Mr George Tysoe. A picture of the later together with the tablet erected in 1877 appears in another cutting from the day’s paper.
